METRO CORE TRANSPORT
DRIVERS AND CHALLENGES
The demand for new services in both the residential and business sectors including IPTV, Video-on-Demand, High Definition TV (HDTV), 3D TV and data growth in wireless networks is increasing the need for both TDM and Ethernet capacity. Legacy TDM-based infrastructures are not optimized for data service growth and do not support multi service requirements including oversubscription and aggregated handoff needed to streamline networks and reduce costs.
KEY APPLICATIONS
- Multiservice optical transport for carriers, cable and mobile operators
- Wholesale applications, including carrier’s carrier applications
- Wireline and wireless backhaul (broadband and triple play)
- Enterprise LAN connectivity
- Integration of legacy and NGN services on a single network (fiber relief)
SOLUTION
The FSP 3000 Metro Core solution comprises a flexible optical layer supporting an extended range of Ethernet, TDM and SAN network interfaces. It contains reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers and Layer-2 ADM-on-a blade providing scalable packet aggregation and Carrier Ethernet transport. It offers further end-to-end network and service management capability for rapid service turn-up and ongoing Service Level Agreement (SLA) management, across all network elements closely integrated with the carrier’s operational support systems.
FEATURES + BENEFITS
- Flexible optical layer using C/DWDM and ROADM technologies
- All client services supported from 8Mbit/s – 40Gbit/s on a single platform (100Gbit/s in near future)
- Multi-service trans- and muxponder cards supporting combinations of TDM, Ethernet and SAN interfaces.
- Integrated Packet multiplexers supporting aggregation and switching of Ethernet Virtual circuits for efficient handling of Ethernet flows including protection
- Pluggable and tunable interfaces to minimise number of card variants, reducing spares holding and operational costs.
- FSP 150 demarcation for end-to-end services
