The GFP Access Solution

ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 1500 is a next generation SONET/SDH access system for the seamless aggregation of up to ten high-speed data, storage, and voice applications on a OC-12/STM-4 or OC-48/STM-16 interface. Compliance with the ITU Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) standard guarantees maximum interoperability for SONET/SDH. Virtual concatenation provides bandwidth efficiency and ensures transport compatibility with all existing SONET/SDH networks. Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) allows dynamic adjustment of bandwidth according to the end user needs.

Service providers deploy the carrier-class FSP 1500 to provision new data and storage services with a very low cost access solution that leverages their existing SONET/SDH network.

The FSP 1500 is a cost-optimized system that has been designed for customer premise deployment. The unique solution has a small 1U high footprint and hot-swappable, small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical interfaces that enable service providers to more simply and flexibly evolve to customer application requirements. The FSP 1500 supports a wide range of high-bit-rate data services at native speed: Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, FICON, and Fibre Channel. In addition, the system supports traditional voice services, including E1/T1.

The FSP 1500 is suitable for deployment in point-to-point, add/drop, ring and feeder topologies. Performance monitoring and error-rate analysis help ensure that service levels are met. The FSP 1500 fully integrates with third party SONET/SDH equipment, as well as the ADVA Optical Networking’s Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system, and FSP Element and Network Manager software. Service providers can provision, monitor, and manage services from any node in the network.
