Open OTN cross-connects

Eliminating constraints

Coherent technology is ramping up at the optical edge. The need to cope with the ever-increasing traffic growth and maximize fiber transport capacity is driving the adoption of high-speed coherent wavelengths in metro and edge aggregation networks. However, low-speed services are still predominant in today’s metro networks and will coexist with high-speed services for some time. OTN switching is an effective technology for grooming lower-speed services into high-speed wavelengths, but traditional OTN switching solutions are not efficient for next-generation metro networks. With a closed architecture and fixed slot capacity assignments, they don’t provide the scalability and flexibility that next-generation optical transport networks require. Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series of switchponders has been designed to remove constraints and meet specific metro network requirements regarding cost, size, flexibility and operational simplicity.

Leverage fiber capacity

Grooming low-speed traffic into higher-speed wavelengths maximizes fiber usage and minimizes cost per bit.
Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series of switchponders has an entirely new design concept specifically engineered to empower users to leverage more value from their deployed infrastructure.

Ultimate flexibility

Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series provides an open, compact and cost-efficient OTN grooming layer that is ready to respond quickly and efficiently to any changes.

Creating value in deployed networks

Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series of switchponders has an entirely new design concept specifically engineered to empower users to leverage more value from their deployed infrastructure. With none of the restrictions that come from a closed system and its proprietary fabric adapters, our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series provides an open, flexible and compact OTN grooming layer for the efficient transport of low-speed services in coherent-only metro and edge aggregation networks. The combination of OTN and DWDM enables the efficient transport of multiple and different types of services into a common wavelength. And the client flexibility and data transparency make it ideal to evolve legacy networks. OpenFabric™ is also perfect for grooming traffic close to the transition to the core network. This reduces the number of high-speed interfaces in the hub and saves capital and operational expenses.

No more static capacity

Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series empowers network operators to use any mix of optical services and scale as and when needed.

Scalability and data security

Our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series means no more wasted capacity and no unnecessary cost. With an open front plane without proprietary adapters and fixed slot assignments, it gives CSPs the freedom to scale as and when demand requires it. Moreover, size, cost and power have been optimized to meet stringent metro and edge aggregation requirements. Its design concept is based on a single card with a fully open and flexible front plane and standard pluggable interfaces. Client services can be connected directly in a pay-as-you-grow approach. This offers the highest flexibility and scalability with minimum cost and footprint. Several card variants are available, offering 400Gbit/s or 1200Gbit/s interface capacity on a card and optional built-in Layer 1 encryption technology that protects data in motion against cyberattacks. By using a new form of open OTN cross-connect technology, our FSP 3000 OpenFabric™ Series eliminates the boundaries of legacy OTN solutions and meets the most stringent metro and edge aggregation network requirements.
