- Topic: Achieving Carrier-Grade NFV Performance
- When: Thursday, September 28, 2:30 p.m.
- Where: Light Reading’s NFV & Carrier SDN 2017, Westin Westminster, Denver, Colorado, USA
One of the main changes with NFV is the use of standard IT servers rather than proprietary hardware to deliver network functions. Those servers, however, were not necessarily designed to support the complex and latency-sensitive VNF workloads, leading to some concerns about performance. Vendors are proposing many different potential software and hardware solutions, including DPDK, OpenDataPlane, SR-IOV, PCI Pass Through and SmartNICs, while others argue that the concerns about performance are overblown.
This session will highlight how leading vendors are ensuring next-gen solutions provide CSPs with the carrier-grade performance they require and debate the issue of how significant a challenge performance actually is.
