IPsec vs In-flight Encryption
The dominant form of protecting data today is IPsec, which as the name implies encrypts IP packets before and after they move around a network. And, for higher layer IP packet and VPN services, IPsec makes a lot of sense. But there are a lot of enterprises and service providers today using and offering dark fiber, wavelength, and switched services that reside below the IP network layer. For these applications and services, IPsec is a poor fit at best, and in-flight encryption makes more sense.
